Jiaxi Han
Jiaxi Han és l’artista seleccionada del primer bloc de les residències B-Murals 2026. Desenvolupa el seu projecte a B-Murals del 15 de gener al 15 d’abril de 2026.
La seva pràctica artística se situa en la cruïlla entre tradició i contemporaneïtat, articulant un llenguatge visual que parteix del patrimoni tèxtil per activar reflexions sobre migració, identitat i intercanvis culturals.
Nascuda a Guizhou, al sud-oest de la Xina, i de pertinença ètnica Buyi, Jiaxi Han desenvolupa una obra profundament vinculada a les tècniques tradicionals del batik índigo de la cultura Miao.
En la seva pràctica, els patrons i motius tèxtils no funcionen com a elements decoratius, sinó com a sistemes simbòlics que acumulen memòria, relats de desplaçament i coneixement transmès generacionalment. El seu treball combina processos artesanals amb formats contemporanis com el mural, la instal·lació i el treball participatiu, generant composicions geomètriques d’alta càrrega cultural i poètica.
Durant la seva residència a B-Murals, Jiaxi Han desenvoluparà una investigació artística que explora la circulació global dels patrons tèxtils i les seves transformacions a través del temps, el comerç, la colonització i la migració en el nostre context. Prenent com a punt de partida els motius del batik Miao, el projecte estableix un diàleg amb la història tèxtil de Barcelona, Catalunya i Espanya, així com de les seves comunitats, amb les tradicions visuals de comunitats llatinoamericanes presents a la ciutat.
El projecte es materialitzarà en tres línies principals: un mural de gran format a l’espai públic que trasllada el llenguatge íntim del tèxtil al mur urbà; una instal·lació tèxtil i un taller comunitari de batik, concebut com un espai de trobada i creació col·lectiva. D’aquesta manera, el projecte es construeix com una obra oberta que connecta territoris, cultures i experiències a través del patró com a llenguatge universal.
Amb aquesta residència, B-Murals acull una proposta que posa en valor el muralisme com a espai de transmissió cultural, diàleg intercultural i construcció de relats compartits en el context urbà contemporani.

Jiaxi Han is the artist selected for the first block of the B-Murals Residencies 2026, developing her project at B-Murals from 15 January to 15 April 2026.
Her artistic practice is situated at the intersection of tradition and contemporaneity, articulating a visual language rooted in textile heritage to reflect on migration, identity, and cultural exchange.
Born in Guizhou, in southwest China, and of Buyi ethnic background, Jiaxi Han’s work is deeply connected to the traditional indigo batik techniques of the Miao culture.
In her practice, textile patterns and motifs do not function as decorative elements, but as symbolic systems that carry memory, narratives of displacement, and knowledge transmitted across generations. Her work combines artisanal processes with contemporary formats such as mural painting, installation, and participatory practices, generating geometric compositions of strong cultural and poetic resonance.
During her residency at B-Murals, Jiaxi Han will develop an artistic research project that explores the global circulation of textile patterns and their transformations over time through trade, colonisation, and migration within the local context. Taking Miao batik motifs as a starting point, the project establishes a dialogue with the textile history of Barcelona, Catalonia, and Spain, as well as with local communities and the visual traditions of Latin American communities present in the city.
The project will take shape through three main outputs: a large-scale public mural that translates the intimate language of textiles onto the urban wall; a textile installation; and a community batik workshop conceived as a space for collective creation and exchange. In this way, the project unfolds as an open process that connects territories, cultures, and experiences through pattern as a universal visual language.
With this residency, B-Murals hosts a proposal that highlights muralism as a space for cultural transmission, intercultural dialogue, and the construction of shared narratives within the contemporary urban context.
