Schoko Tanaka és una artista autodidacta que viu i treballa a Tòquio. La seva obra abasta la pintura, la ceràmica, el brodat i el muralisme. El seu recorregut vital —des de la infància als Estats Units fins al retorn al Japó i, més endavant, una estada transformadora a Mèxic— ha marcat profundament la seva mirada cultural i artística.

L’obra de Tanaka és un diàleg constant entre llenguatges visuals i identitats múltiples. Concebeix l’art com una forma de comunicació universal que transcendeix fronteres i categories, i que li permet connectar amb persones i contextos diversos. Aquest encreuament cultural impregna les seves peces, que sovint són percebudes amb una aura mexicana al Japó, i amb una essència asiàtica a Mèxic.

La seva recerca artística s’ha consolidat com un experiment vital continu, on cada desplaçament obre noves possibilitats expressives. Amb la residència a Espanya, Tanaka busca sortir de la seva rutina quotidiana i aprofundir en aquest procés de creació en diàleg amb nous entorns.

Schoko Tanaka is a self-taught artist currently living and working in Tokyo. Her practice spans painting, ceramics, embroidery, and murals, and is deeply influenced by her multicultural life experiences. Having moved to the United States at the age of five and returning to Japan four years later, Tanaka developed an acute sensitivity to the contrasts between cultures and the role of art as a universal language.

For Tanaka, artistic expression is a way to transcend boundaries of race and identity, allowing her to connect with diverse people and perspectives. Her work is shaped by cross-cultural experiences—especially a transformative year spent in Mexico, which deeply influenced her visual language. In Japan, her paintings are often seen as having a Mexican quality, while in Mexico, their Asian essence stands out. This ongoing dialogue between cultures is central to her creative journey.

Tanaka sees each new context as an opportunity to challenge and expand her artistic process. During the B-Murals Residency in Spain, she hopes to step out of her daily routine in Tokyo and immerse herself in a new environment of exploration and creation.
