Schoko Tanaka és una de les artistes del quart bloc de les Residències B-M, el darrer de 2025. Desenvolupa el seu projecte a B-Murals del 15/set al 15/des de 2025.
Schoko Tanaka és una artista marcada per la influència del muralisme mexicà, que explora en la seva pràctica l’encreuament entre l’art mural i el tèxtil. El projecte que desenvoluparà a B-Murals proposa una sèrie de murals que incorporin elements de brodat, combinant l’escala monumental i pública del mural amb la qualitat íntima i tàctil del tèxtil.
La proposta parteix de la voluntat de generar un diàleg entre tradició i contemporaneïtat, entre la força col·lectiva del mural i el detall artesanal del brodat. A través de tallers i processos participatius, Tanaka implicarà la comunitat en la creació de motius i peces que s’integraran en els dissenys, fent dels murals un exercici de narració col·lectiva.
D’aquesta manera, l’artista busca ampliar els límits del muralisme, creant obres públiques que, més enllà de la seva dimensió estètica, articulin un intercanvi cultural entre Mèxic i Catalunya i obrin nous camins de lectura sobre identitat, transformació social i memòria compartida.

Schoko Tanaka is one of the artists in the fourth block of the B-M Residencies, the final one of 2025. She will develop his project at B-Murals from September 15 to December 15, 2025.
Schoko Tanaka is an artist strongly influenced by Mexican muralism, whose practice explores the intersection between mural art and textiles. The project she will develop at B-Murals proposes a series of murals incorporating elements of embroidery, blending the monumental and public scale of muralism with the intimate, tactile quality of textile art.
Her proposal aims to create a dialogue between tradition and contemporaneity, between the collective power of murals and the artisanal detail of embroidery. Through workshops and participatory processes, Tanaka will involve the community in creating motifs and pieces that will be integrated into the designs, turning the murals into an exercise in collective storytelling.
In doing so, the artist seeks to expand the boundaries of muralism, creating public artworks that, beyond their aesthetic dimension, foster a cultural exchange between Mexico and Catalonia and open new perspectives on identity, social transformation, and shared memory.
Cuando la vida te da un limón y una manzana
és l’exposició resultant del període de residències artístiques a B-Murals de Schoko Tanaka.
La llimona —acidesa, tensió— i la poma —dolçor, calma— representen, per a l’artista, els contrastos i, a més, esdevenen un símbol de la convivència, la simultaneïtat de les contradiccions que viuen en cada persona. Aquestes contradiccions oscil·len en el temps: fluctuen, s’enfonsen o desapareixen depenent del moment vital, però es necessiten mútuament per trobar un equilibri.
A les obres de Tanaka hi destaquen altres figures recurrents: el cavall, lligat a la seva herència familiar i portador de força, llibertat, resistència i determinació; i la serp, símbol de transformació i energia vital. Aquests animals apareixen com a eixos narratius i traductors de les seves emocions.
L’obra de Schoko Tanaka oscil·la entre allò monumental i allò íntim, entre la força del color pla i la subtilesa del fil, entre el dolç i l’àcid. Un diàleg sobre la identitat, el canvi i els equilibris fràgils, constants i mutables alhora, que ens sostenen.
Les peces creades durant la residència són obres molt personals i en elles, els elements tan propis de l’obra de Schoko serveixen com a motor de reflexió personal i universal sobre qui som.
Acompanyant l’exposició i en el marc del B-Murals Fest,, Schoko Tanaka ha realitzat una intervenció mural a la Nau Bostik, presentat al B-Murals Fest.
Cuando la vida te da un limón y una manzana
(When Life Gives You a Lemon and an Apple)
is the exhibition resulting from Schoko Tanaka’s artist residency period at B-Murals.
The lemon —acidity, tension— and the apple —sweetness, calm— represent, for the artist, contrasts and also become a symbol of coexistence, the simultaneity of contradictions that inhabit every person. These contradictions shift over time: they fluctuate, sink, or fade depending on one’s life moment, yet they need each other to find balance.
Other recurring figures stand out in Tanaka’s work: the horse, linked to her family heritage and carrying ideas of strength, freedom, resilience, and determination; and the snake, a symbol of transformation and vital energy. These animals appear as narrative axes and translators of her emotions.
Schoko Tanaka’s work oscillates between the monumental and the intimate, between the force of flat color and the subtlety of thread, between the sweet and the acidic. It forms a dialogue on identity, change, and the fragile, constant and ever-shifting balances that sustain us.
The pieces created during the residency are deeply personal works in which the characteristic elements of Schoko’s practice serve as engines for personal and universal reflection on who we are.
