June Lee
June Lee és una artista visual que treballa principalment amb el fil, la fibra i l’escultura tèxtil per explorar la posició de l’individu dins la societat contemporània. A través de figures humanes construïdes, fragmentades o connectades entre si, la seva pràctica analitza la tensió entre la identitat individual i la pertinença a una comunitat, així com les responsabilitats que es generen en la relació amb les altres persones.
La seva obra aborda fenòmens socials com l’efecte espectador, la psicologia de masses, la transferència de responsabilitats o els prejudicis. Sovint observa aquests comportaments des d’una perspectiva externa, representant cossos que semblen formar part d’un mateix entramat i que, alhora, conserven la seva singularitat. El fil, material central en el seu treball i vinculat simbòlicament a la vida i al destí, es converteix en un element de connexió, dependència i continuïtat entre les figures.
Des de 2022, la seva pràctica incorpora de manera més directa experiències personals i reflexions sobre la necessitat d’establir vincles basats en l’afecte i l’acceptació. En aquestes obres, diferents fragments corporals es fusionen per formar una sola figura, mentre que els cossos incomplets deixen espais oberts que poden ser ocupats per altres persones. Aquest buit funciona com una metàfora de la capacitat d’acollir, compartir i construir comunitat.
Formada en pintura, dibuix i arts de la fibra, June Lee desenvolupa una trajectòria internacional vinculada especialment a l’art tèxtil contemporani, l’escultura i la instal·lació, en diàleg amb l’art urbà pels conceptes que treballa en la seva producció artística. La seva obra ha estat presentada en exposicions, biennals i residències artístiques en diversos contextos d’Àsia, Europa i els Estats Units.

June Lee is a visual artist who works primarily with thread, fibre and textile sculpture to explore the position of the individual within contemporary society. Through human figures that are constructed, fragmented or interconnected, her practice examines the tension between individual identity and belonging to a community, as well as the responsibilities that arise through our relationships with others.
Her work addresses social phenomena such as the bystander effect, crowd psychology, the shifting of responsibility and prejudice. She often observes these behaviours from an external perspective, representing bodies that appear to form part of the same network while retaining their individuality. Thread, the central material in her work and symbolically associated with life and destiny, becomes an element of connection, interdependence and continuity between the figures.
Since 2022, her practice has incorporated personal experiences and reflections on the need to establish bonds based on affection and acceptance more directly. In these works, different body fragments merge to form a single figure, while incomplete bodies leave open spaces that can be occupied by others. This absence functions as a metaphor for the capacity to welcome, share and build community.
Trained in painting, drawing and fibre arts, June Lee has developed an international career focused particularly on contemporary textile art, sculpture and installation, engaging in a dialogue with urban art through the concepts addressed in her artistic practice. Her work has been presented in exhibitions, biennials and artistic residencies across Asia, Europe and the United States.
