Sylvia Chih-Ya Yang és l’artista seleccionada per fer la residència artística a B-Murals entre el 15 de setembre i el 15 de desembre de 2026.
La seva pràctica artística explora el menjar com a espai de relació, memòria i construcció col·lectiva. A través de processos participatius, tallers i accions de cocreació, treballa amb experiències vinculades a la cuina i als àpats quotidians per activar relats personals i compartits. El menjar es converteix així en un punt de partida per parlar de pertinença, transmissió cultural i vincles entre persones de procedències i generacions diverses. En projectes anteriors, l’artista ha traslladat aquestes memòries a peces tèxtils i instal·lacions creades col·lectivament, transformant experiències íntimes en formes visibles i compartides.
Durant la seva residència a B-Murals desenvoluparà ‘Art and Food: The Adhesive Between Me and You’, un projecte que pren com a context La Sagrera i la història industrial de la Nau Bostik, antiga fàbrica d’adhesius reconvertida en espai cultural. A partir d’aquesta particularitat, Yang proposa el concepte d’“adhesió” com una metàfora de les relacions que es poden generar entre persones, memòries i cultures a través del menjar i de la pràctica artística. El projecte prestarà especial atenció a la diversitat social i cultural del barri i a les històries vinculades a les diferents comunitats que l’habiten.
La primera fase del projecte se centrarà en la recollida de memòries culinàries. A través de trobades amb veïnes i veïns, l’artista recopilarà plats significatius, receptes, formes de cuinar i les històries personals associades a aquests aliments, construint progressivament un arxiu col·lectiu. Aquest material serà després traslladat a una sèrie de tallers participatius en què les persones participants treballaran amb teixits reutilitzats i roba de segona mà per representar els plats recollits mitjançant peces de patchwork, elaborades principalment a partir del tall, l’esquinçat i l’enganxat de fragments tèxtils.
Aquest procés donarà lloc a una instal·lació col·lectiva i situada, concebuda a partir de les memòries compartides durant la residència. En la fase final, les peces creades es presentaran en una exposició acompanyada d’una trobada al voltant del menjar, recuperant els plats i relats que han donat origen al projecte. ‘Art and Food: The Adhesive Between Me and You’ planteja així la pràctica artística com un espai de trobada en què cuinar, recordar, crear i compartir esdevenen formes de construir vincles amb el territori i entre les persones que l’habiten.

Sylvia Chih-Ya Yang is the artist selected for the B-Murals artistic residency from 15 September to 15 December 2026.
Her artistic practice explores food as a space for connection, memory and collective construction. Through participatory processes, workshops and co-creation actions, she works with experiences linked to cooking and everyday meals in order to activate personal and shared narratives. Food thus becomes a starting point for addressing belonging, cultural transmission and relationships between people of different backgrounds and generations. In previous projects, the artist has translated these memories into textile works and collectively created installations, transforming intimate experiences into visible and shared forms.
During her residency at B-Murals, she will develop ‘Art and Food: The Adhesive Between Me and You’, a project rooted in the context of La Sagrera and the industrial history of Nau Bostik, a former adhesive factory transformed into a cultural space. Drawing on this particular history, Yang proposes the idea of “adhesion” as a metaphor for the relationships that can emerge between people, memories and cultures through food and artistic practice. The project will pay particular attention to the social and cultural diversity of the neighbourhood and to the stories connected to the different communities that inhabit it.
The first phase of the project will focus on collecting culinary memories. Through meetings with local residents, the artist will gather meaningful dishes, recipes, cooking practices and the personal stories associated with them, gradually building a collective archive. This material will then be developed through a series of participatory workshops in which participants will work with reused fabrics and second-hand clothing to represent the collected dishes through patchwork pieces, created primarily by cutting, tearing and gluing textile fragments.
This process will lead to a collective, site-specific installation conceived from the memories shared throughout the residency. In the final phase, the works created will be presented in an exhibition accompanied by a gathering around food, bringing back the dishes and stories that gave rise to the project. ‘Art and Food: The Adhesive Between Me and You’ thus approaches artistic practice as a space of encounter, where cooking, remembering, creating and sharing become ways of building connections with the territory and among the people who inhabit it.
